Feminist Women's Health Center

Since 1977, the Feminist Women's Health Center (FWHC) has worked to serve and engage a diverse population of women through service, education and advocacy. As Atlanta's only non-profit comprehensive gynecological health care facility, we have earned an outstanding reputation for providing quality health care and community health education, while also working unceasingly to protect all reproductive choices for all women.

Prior to its reception in the early 70's, founders of the Feminist Women's Health Center recognized the need for women-centered health care to counter the existing medical system beliefs and practices that were based primarily on male assumptions. FWHC used a feminist approach of empowering women with the information necessary to make their own decisions about their health care options and to participate actively in their health care. This approach goes beyond empowering the individual woman, but also means advocating for women's voices to be heard and counted in the policy debates which affect their health, families, and realities.

We are committed to maintaining a feminist presence and voice in health care. The Center's philosophy continues to be based on a belief that personal empowerment begins with information and leads to women listening to their own voices, to make their own decisions. The people who work at the Health Center are a diverse and committed team who share this philosophy and who strive to increase economic, geographic, structural, and language accessibility for the women we serve. We honor diversity and respect for all women regardless of race, color, ethnicity, physical and mental ability, age, sexual orientation, body size, religion, economic status, and political views.

The mission of the Feminist Women's Health Center is to empower women through service, education and advocacy, including:

  1. Providing quality gynecological health care to women throughout all life stages in an emotionally supportive and safe environment
  2. Promoting informed decision-making and participatory health care with access to the most current information, services, and technology for all women, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical ability, and socioeconomic status
  3. Advancing women's health and choices, including the choice of legal abortion, through both community and political advocacy.

The Feminist Women's Health Center is a Georgia nonprofit organization with a 501 (c) 3 tax status and donations are tax-deductible.
