Dr. Peter Alsop
Dr. PETER ALSOP is a nationally known singer/songwriter, lecturer and humorist from California, who is noted for the warmth and insight of his presentations. He is a Certified Experiential Therapist, and has a Ph.D. in educational psychology. Before starting his production company, he worked as the Director of the Harbor Schools residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed adolescents in Maine, and as an elementary school teacher at P.S. 132 in the South Bronx ghetto.
He is best known as a national lecturer and singer-songwriter for children. His children's albums have won numerous "Best Children's Album" of the year awards, and are used by thousands of parents, doctors, social workers, educators and other human service professionals to help families discuss sensitive issues such as sexual abuse, disabilities, loss and grief, codependency, self-worth, chemical dependency and family violence. Each year he lectures to thousands of professionals at national conferences and workshops, and he has presented at more than 400 colleges and universities. He's been honored to be a member of many prestigious national conference faculties with such notable professionals as Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, Benjamin Spock, Buckminster Fuller, Masters and Johnson and Norman Cousins.
As a writer and producer, he has written, directed and appeared in feature films, infomercials, children's shows, and educational videos. He has also worked as cameraman, producer, production assistant, composer and distributor. His songs have appeared in Speilberg's The Money Pit, and dozens of educational videos, including the award-winning, Here We Go!, POPS, and Dyin' To Be Thin, winner of a PBS IRIS Award. He's trained as a classical actor, having performed in numerous plays by Shakespeare and Checkov, and in his own plays, Barnyard Sweets, and Pie In The Sky, for which he wrote the music. He's appeared on the television series, Taxi, and in feature films such as After Romeo, On The Nickel, and Getting Wasted.
Peter now lives with his family, actress/director Ellen Geer and their two daughters, Megan and Willow, in Topanga, California.
